How to become a sponsor.
What are we asking for?
We are asking that our sponsors help in three phases.
Phase 1- You will: pay for the application, fill out an affidavit of support and pray this works. WE will: Connect you with a Christian Afghan family, File the application and follow every lead we can in order to get congressional support.
Phase 2- IF the application is accepted the Afghans will be processed on a military base until they have a SSN and a work permit. In this time You will: come up with a plan for where they can live and for their short term provision. We will: co-ordinate efforts to provide English language classes and help them learn the language.
*Theoretically for this phase the government has launched the AFGHAN PLACEMENT & ASSISTANCE Program, which aims to provide all of these things. Any of you who sponsor will have the opportunity to have direct training and support with a World Relief coordinator for this, so we are hoping you won’t have to do everything yourself, but right now the system is that there is no system, everything is on fire and we should be prepared for the eventuality that no one gives us any help. Click here: to see available resources.
Phase 3- We will: Help the Afghans apply for asylum and centralize some resources for finding jobs. You will: Be someone your sponsored Afghan can practice English with (building on what they have learned in actual lessons) and encourage them towards independence.

Donate for the cost of the humanitarian parole application.
Each individual application costs $575, we are asking sponsors to cover the applications for a family of four which costs 2300. Some families have more, some have less, but breaking the cost down to an average is the simplest way to plan this. You can donate below and read about the process here:
https://www.uscis.gov/forms/explore-my-options/humanitarian-paroleWe will assign you a family and give you instructions for filling out USCIS form I-134 Affidavit of Support.
Email jim@al-maidah.org and we will get you everything you need. By signing this form you are agreeing that you have means to support a refugee family and taking responsibility for them not being the recipient of government cash. This sponsorship will only cover the duration of their temporary humanitarian parole, until they apply for asylum (which is free and we will help with) according to the State Departments handbook linked here: “This affidavit, submitted by the applicant at your request, is not legally binding on the sponsor” Section (3) - A.
Return the paperwork to us by the end of 2021.
For expediency we will arrange to collect the forms and supporting documentation from you in person.
We will take it from there.
